How To Avoid Having Your Downloadable Items Ripped Off!
Selling online is not as secure or safe for you as you might think. The obvious things when selling downloadable goods like e-books or software are to use a secure payment processor (like PayPal) and/or a third party fulfillment service (like Clickbank) and to pay attention to your download page by not making the page title too easy to guess.
In addition you should use a META Tag like this: - META NAME = “ROBOTS” CONTENT = “NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW” - to stop the robots listing your page in search results.
I always thought that was enough, until I was ripped off three times just this last week. What I didn’t know was that the line on my ‘Thank You’ page which reads “Thank You For Your Purchase…” would show up in searches on certain search engines (like Alexa) and allow these unscrupulous people to steal my products.
SO BE WARNED!
As an immediate precaution I have changed the wording, but I will have to move to another layer of protection and use an autoresponder to send the items to an approved email address in future.
If anybody has some good ideas I’d like to hear them please!
