Buying Auto Insurance - What To Look For

Nowadays you are required by law, almost everywhere to carry basic or third-party automobile insurance. The question is what level of cover above the minimum and how do you know which is right for you.  These ‘buying auto insurance’ tips will help you buy the insurance which meets your needs.

When you buy car or auto insurance, you do so to protect yourself and your family in the event of an accident.  We all like to think that it won’t happen but if it did, you could incur serious financial losses and  be devastated by those losses.  Only by having adequate insurance do you bring peace of mind to yourself and your family.

Try to buy the broadest cover you can afford.  For example if you are buying comprehensive cover try to find one policy that covers third-party claims, fire, theft and vandalism.  Comprehensive cover will cost you a little more but any claim is more likely to be successful.

You should also make sure that the value you give for your car is accurate and realistic.

If you say your car is worth $10,000 when actually it’s only worth $5000,  you’ll pay premiums on the $10,000 amount but if something happens you’ll receive a payout based on the $5000 or actual value.  You’re wasting your own money by inflating the real value of your vehicle.
